Iheoma Obibi is an African feminist activist and writer with over three decades of working in feminist activism, safeguarding and independent research. Presently she is the Executive Director of Alliances for Africa (AfA), a feminist non-profit working on women’s human rights advocacy and ending violence against women and girls in the heart of South Eastern Nigeria.
Iheoma has worked as a Consultant providing advice, expertise and consulting services to several international agencies. She is the institutional lead on safeguarding for AfA, and has acted as a trainer, facilitator and country expert researcher combining her experiences of feminism with on spot analysis in assessing end of cycle projects, gender audits, mapping, analysis, planning, mainstreaming and training. Recent writing includes designing a training and protocol manual on “Documentation as a mechanism to ensure accountability for mass atrocities in South Eastern states of Nigeria” for rural community-based organisations in those states seeking accountability and justice.
Iheoma has used the IASC materials to provide training on sexual exploitation, abuse and sexual harassment for community groups. Additional consulting has included assessing writing a report for Partners West Africa on “SGBV & Impact of COVID19 pandemic on Nigerian women”, which was a wide-ranging report and involved conducting a desk review, developing SGBV protocols, tools and carried out quantitative and qualitative survey of Nigerian women. The report identified key highlights with policy implications for funding agencies and its partners and provided concrete recommendations for SGBV programming and opportunities for interventions.
